digital diary of my traveling world

Extending my stay at COO Hostel after a business trip on friday urged me to try a breakfast spot nearby. Located in Tiong Bahru, a cafe & bakery called Tiong Bahru Bakery catches my eyes when we were wandering around the night before to find some food.

I visited their store in the neighborhood area at Eng Hoon, it's pretty crowded even it's still 8 in the morning. So if you want to visit the store, i suggest you to go at 07.30 or 08.00 a.m, but if you just want to take out then it's fine to visit anytime.

Front view of Tiong Bahru Bakery

They served Infused Water for those who wait :D
Famous by its bakery, i'm trying their Chocolate Almond Croissant (after i tasted Green Tea Almond Croissant previously) accompanied by their famous fusion tea family: Nymph of the Nyle. I can say i'm a big fan of Croissant and i'm happy with it.

The size was moderate and i thought one wasn't enough to fulfill my crave. But i guess i was wrong. The size of the croissant might be moderate, but they're being generous with the filling.

The price of their bakery is fair, in my personal opinion. You can have lots of mouth-watering option start from 4 SGD.

They also have various option for cake! I tasted their Lemon and Basil cake, but i don't think it's suitable with me. It has a pretty strong tangy taste, i'm not really into it.

As for the tea, i'm also a big fan of traditional tea and this is my first time sipping a fusion one. I don't know what's the mixture in it, but I can tell you this one will be one of my favorite. So if you have time to visit this place, go give it a try. It won't be disappointing :)

Turns out they're also have their branch at Raffles City where they served all of their hot menu (i will try this one out next time i visit Singapore) and at TANGS Orchard.

The same question poppin' out lately: "you've lost a significant weight! what did you do? tell me your secrets!". Well, i just lost 8 kilograms in total a couple month ago. No exercise (have to work on it).

I'm pretty proud of myself about this. Why should i? Because i didn't do any diet nor hired a Personal Trainer.

Back in the days, i used to be an athlete who had a routine. I should maintain my stamina, hence i maintain my daily "intake" properly. Plus, my dad hates junk food so much. He won't let me and my siblings eat more than one kind of junk food every two weeks.

When i started to work, i gained 6 kilos due to diet mess. I eat when i'm bored, when i'm stressed, basically every time (aren't we all?) and i eat all the carbs that i found: noodle, jasmine rice, sweet potato, potato in every way: mashed, fried and all that stuff.

But then i realized, i feel full. All the time. and i hate that feeling.

Not literally full because of eating, but i feel that my body absorbs massive intake, it makes me feel heavy and move slowly, and i became lazy because of it.

Then i came with an idea to do: "Food Combining". Food combining basically is more like differentiate your meals based on the character of each component. But as for me, since i don't really understand about the component in each meal, i'm rephrasing the definition of Food Combining to be more like = i can eat anything with less carbs in it, so i can have a better result for an ideal weight.

First thing first, i know i can't change my lifestyle in a day, so i started with:

1. Drink a glass of water right after i wake up

Girls, this is the secret of having good metabolism (at least for me) and to reduce body fat. Do it every day, before you do anything. If you don't believe me, check this article out : Killer morning habit

and don't forget, drink more in the middle of a day than in the evening because it leads to hormonal balance and help you lose your weight and stay hydrated. Just imagined a vehicle lack of oil, the same thing happens to your body as well if you don't drink enough water for the day.

2. Change my breakfast pack

I used to eat noodle, fried rice or nasi uduk in the morning, then i changed it into "oats and friends". I hate it at first, because i don't really like oats and those stuff. But then i came with the idea that i have to "play" with them.

So i bought two kinds of Muesli (My favorite is Kolln) : Yoghurt Strawberry & Oats and Chocolate Brittle. I used to mix both of it with Chia Seeds and Chocolate Milk served cold.

But honestly, i couldn't stand to eat this everyday so i challenged myself to eat this at least 3 up to 4 days in a week. I could go back to my old habit with arem-arem or nasi uduk for the rest of the days, but the trick is this:

Limit your portion. STOP when you feel you had enough

If you think that we shouldn't left the food over, separate it into half in the first place. You can eat the rest later, or share with your friends. You can love the food, but you need to love your body more.

3. Change the Jasmine Rice into Red, Brown or Black Rice

Moved to the next level: change my jasmine rice into red and (my favorite) black rice, combined.

We, as Indonesian, usually eat jasmine rice in every meal. If you can't leave it, then change it. red and black rice are complex carbohydrate. It'll helps you to fill your stomach longer.

4. Eat less for Dinner

Last thing : eat less for dinner. If you can't sleep when you're hungry, eat fruits and drink milk to help you. i'd prefer not to eat anything for dinner, but if you can't do it, then just replace it with anything but carbs.

You can go with fruits, milk, meat or anything, but not carbs. And try to eat maximum three hours before you sleep.

This is my kinda option if i think i'm going to starve at night, i'll go with a choice of Healthy Bowl. This one is Sweet Nuts from Beets and Bouts, SCBD, Jakarta.

Just remember these rules:
1. Eat less carbs
2. Limit your portion
3. Eat when you're hungry, STOP when you feel you had enough
4. You still can have any kind of snack, but with one condition: rules no. 2. I usually measure it with a small tea cup (especially for potato chips)
5. Love your body more than food
6. Do it step by step

If you can make those four points as your daily habit and follow the rules, hopefully you can maintain your proportional weight without having any exercise (*grin*)

One of my friend got her ideal weight in 55kg by doing these steps. How about you?

Got a chance to visit the capital city of Serbia, Belgrade on mid august 2016 gave me a whole new experience to see the other part of the European world. Never thought i'm going to visit this city (even this country), but a phone call from my uncle leads me to a completely different decision. Have you imagined what Serbia looks like?

Sitting on the edge of Belgrade Fortress

Belgrade Fortress separated by Sava River

Terrace Cafe in Petrovaradin Fortress, Novi Sad

Interested to visit this city? here some tips and trick for you who holds Indonesian Passport and planning to go there:

1. Preparing the Visa
a bit afraid after reading some experiences when some people couldn't enter the country without Serbian Visa, i asked the Embassy of Serbia about the procedure to enter the country with Schengen Visa. Luckily, we can enter this country with Schengen Visa with two condition: it has to be Multiple Visit Schengen Visa, and you have to arrived and go through the immigration process in one of Schengen Country before flying to Serbia.

IMPORTANT! you couldn't go directly to Serbia OR transit in one of Schengen country without going through their immigration process. That's why you have to hold a multiple visit schengen visa.

or else, you can just apply for Serbian Visa only :)

2. Language
it's pretty hard to speak using foreign language (read: english) with elderly, but the youth could speak english fluently.

3. Culture
Speaking of the culture, since this country has a pretty chaotic past due to war, all i can think is they're having a cold gesture and a pretty scary appearance. Well, apparently i shouldn't overthink. The people are very nice (both the look and the gesture), and they're having a nice building everywhere where they leave the exterior architecture as it is (after the bombing), where they re-make the interior as modern as i saw in another big city!

Well, that's a little bit of my experience i could share about preparation going to Serbia. Will share the details in another post. Stay tune!

Just flew to Melbourne for a short holiday a couple days ago, and i fell in love with this city already. Have a different ambiance from Sydney, Melbourne has its own charm to comfort me with their COFFEE! The culture to sit back, relax and drink your coffee seems affect me more than i thought.

To be honest, i think Oz need some effort to impress me at first. Sydney doesn't leave anything memorable, so i don't expect much from Melbourne. I flew here to watch Coldplay only, but then i think it's a good idea to extend for a few days just to see what people said as The Most Livable City in The World.

Then i asked my boss who had lived in this city back then, and she gave me a must-visit list (almost all of them were cafes haha)

I just got 4 days and 3 nights to stroll around. And there's a cafe, probably you've heard about it, called St. Ali, that stole my heart for the first time.

It's a bit hard to find this place unless you can spot the iconic little statue on its door with no sign at all. The white bricks building was confusing yet surprising me, knowing that this is once a garage.

Too bad i arrived two hours before they closed, so the hot kitchen closed already. But lucky me, i still can taste their coffee and delicious cruffin. YUM!

this is my first time being here, so i asked the waitress which coffee will suit me when i like coffee with milk and not-too-strong shot due to my acute gastritis.

She suggests a latte with God-only-knows-what-she-said-about-the-arabica-robusta-mixing haha. but i agreed right away. it's summer and i want to sip my coffee!

while she get me the latte, i move my ass to the counter and take a look at their cakes. Me and Rico got ourselves a cake, a Chocolate and Macadamia Cruffin for me, and i think it's a Walnut Tart for Rico.

and the first bite says enough about the cruffin. What a delish one! they've got a hidden coconut inside, so it feels like a twist hihi.

The walnut tart also taste good :D #nomnom

and the coffee finally arrived. Here's the moment of truth... *drumrolls*

i don't know if it's because of those arabica-robusta mix the waitress said earlier or i was just too tired and dehydrated, but the coffee tastes incredibly good! It doesn't have something special that you should look for, but by sipping their coffee, i know why they called themselves as a family. There's a thing that makes this coffee tastes like a home-made coffee with all the feelings in it.

and another thing that makes me happy:

the whole street in front of this cafe was so instagrammable! *wink*

so for you who intend to spend a couple hours to sit back and relax, you can head over to this place and have yourself a tasty coffee.

There is something about Japan that makes me wanna come back for more. I was wondering what was Japan like since i was a kid. I'd like to blame all the comics that entertained me with interesting imaginations about the culture and keep my hopes high.

When i visited Japan in October 2015, i can't help myself to explore a couple cities on my first attempt (even though my friend told me otherwise). Feel the urge to explore some places further, i came back to Japan on February 2016. This time, i'm having one day trip to Kawaguchiko on my itinerary.

Kawaguchiko is one of the most beautiful lake i ever seen, one of the five lake that lie at the foot of Mount Fuji along with Lake Yamanaka, Lake Saiko, Lake Motosu and Lake Shoji.

We went there by the end of February, and it's still freezing due to windy weather occurred. But it's worth it :)

Mount Fuji view from Kawaguchiko Lake

Starting early from Shibuya, we went to the Kawaguchiko by bus. It took 2.5 hours to get there, longer than if you went from Shinjuku. The ticket cost us JPY 3,500 and we spent another JPY 1,200 to buy 2-days pass for sightseeing bus. Yes, they don't sell one day pass for the sight-seeing bus called Omni Bus.

Focusing on the red line instead of Green line, our first stop was Kawaguchiko Music Forest. Kawaguchiko Music Forest is a museum that has many valuable music boxes that Medieval European royals and aristocrats used to enjoy.

They also had the biggest orgel, which echoed every hour in the main hall.

The admission ticket cost us JPY 1,500. But if you visit it in the afternoon (after 3 p.m), you'll get 50% discount.

Since we went there on winter season, we couldn't see the rose garden at its best. But luckily, i can buy this beautiful and pretty Sakura Wine that taste unpredictably sweet.

Move along, we took another ride with sightseeing bus and see an instagram-able spot near the lake and spent 2 hours more or less taking pictures of one another.

We took a lunch afterwards, too bad i didn't try the famous local dish called Hoto because we were so in hurry to go back to the place located in latest station of the red line bus.

The name of this place is Kawaguchiko Shizen Sekatsu-kan (Natural Living Center).

to be honest, i can sit here all day long doing nothing if it's not because of the windy weather. But staying here until the latest bus came was worth to try. you can see the beauty of Mount Fuji surrounded by the bushes and birds as you can see in my picture below.

i was mesmerized with the magical view that Mount Fuji and Kawaguchiko Lake offered, i think i'll go back here with my family one day to try the famous onsen with this incredible view. Maybe staying here for a day or two won't hurt at all.

My most favorite month finally arrived. I was born in this month, so basically i'm waiting for *drumrolls*.... my birthday!

Looking forward to my birthday, i received my, let's say, early birthday gift from my new colleagues. Free VVIP ticket to Halloween Horror Nights in Universal Studio Singapore.

Even Singapore wasn't in my bucket list for this month, i won't miss the opportunity to go out with my new colleagues as well.

We arrived at lunch time, so we're heading to the Chinatown right after to try the famous michelin star hawker.

My boyfriend told me before that there are two stalls hawker had been awarded with michelin star, and they're not even adjust their price.

At china town, i saw a long queue in front of the stall. People bring some snacks and lemonade to accompany them while they're waiting. I don't know that the queue would be THAT long, and i end up waiting for almost 2 hours.

Long queue at Liao Fan Hong Kong Chicken Rice

Pork Rice. So Delish!

My most favorite carbs was the Horfun, accompanied by the chicken and the crispy pork. Well, basically the food was delicious and it's worth to try.

They're opening a new restaurant which has better design and more comfy nearby sponsored by Tim Ho Wan. It could be a nice alternative for you guys who doesn't want to eat in their original place which quite hotter than the new one.
